Australia Introduces New Rules for Student Visa Applications in 2025

Learn about Australia’s new student visa regulations, which go into force in January 2025. Find out how your visa application will be affected by the required Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

Important Modifications to Student Visa Applications

New guidelines for student visa applications submitted both inside and outside of Australia were put into effect by the Australian Department of Home Affairs on January 1, 2025. The main modification is that a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is now required in place of the Letter of Offer.

A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE): What Is It?

An official document issued by Australian institutions following an international student’s enrolment is called a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

1. Accepts an offer of admission, and

2. Covers the necessary tuition costs.

Important elements such the student’s information, program details, tuition costs, and course length are included in this paper. It is necessary for a legitimate student visa application and acts as evidence of enrolment.

New Regulations’ Effect on Visa Applications

  • A CoE must be included with your application if you are applying for a Student visa on or after January 1, 2025.
  • Applications that are submitted Without a CoE will be rejected and not considered for processing.
  • An unsuccessful visa application indicates:
  1. It is impossible to provide a bridging visa.
  2. You have to leave Australia before your current visa expires, look into other visa possibilities, or get a CoE and submit a new visa application.

The new rules won’t have an impact on your application if it was filed using a Letter of Offer prior to January 1, 2025.

Cap on International Student Enrollment for 2025

The National Planning Level (NPL), which the Australian government implemented, caps the number of international students who can enroll for the 2025 academic year at 270,000. This restriction, which goes into effect on January 1, 2025, is meant to control the expansion of programs for international students.

Key Considerations for International Students

  • Make sure you get your CoE well before the deadline for applying for a visa.
  • You have to either leave Australia or look into other immigration possibilities if your existing visa is about to expire and you are unable to obtain a CoE.
  • When organizing your studies in Australia, keep in mind the NPL quota for international students.
