Do you want to travel around Canada and acquire useful work experience at the same time? That’s what the International Experience Canada (IEC) program provides, but there’s not much time left! Applications for 2024 must be submitted by October 21.
Overview of the IEC Program
In December 2023, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) launched the International Experience Canada (IEC) program. It permits young people to temporarily reside and work in Canada from more than 30 nations with which Canada has Youth Mobility Agreements. The IEC has set a goal of 90,000 applications for 2024.
How the IEC Works
This work visa program is intended for young people between the ages of 18 and 35 (or 18 to 30 in certain other countries) who wish to go to Canada and experience Canadian culture and the workforce.
1. Eligibility: To submit a profile to the IEC pool, candidates must fulfil the fundamental eligibility requirements.
2. Selection Process: Candidates are invited to apply for a work visa once the IRCC chooses profiles from the pool. Participation rates differ by nation and category.
IEC Program Streams
The IEC program offers three distinct streams for applicants:
– International Co-op (Internship): gives young people the chance to work as interns at a Canadian company. Prior to applying, candidates must get a co-op placement.
– Young Professionals: Those who have a job offer in Canada are eligible for this route. Candidates are only permitted to work for one employer while they are in the country because the work visa is employer-specific.
– Working Holiday: an open work permit that gives participants the most flexibility in terms of work and travel, enabling them to work for the majority of firms in Canada for a maximum of two years.
Post-Invitation Steps
After being chosen, candidates have 20 days to submit their work permit application after receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Their online IRCC account will be used to confirm the timetable.
Arriving in Canada
IEC participants should be ready to present the following when they enter Canada:
1. Passport
2. Port of Entry Letter
3. Proof of sufficient funds (equivalent to $2,500)
4. Proof of health insurance
5. Return flight or funds to purchase one
Make sure the proof of funds on your bank statements is dated no more than a week prior to your trip.
Don’t let this chance pass you by! To get the most out of your time in Canada through the IEC program, apply before October 21.
