Key Changes in Northern Territory Visa Nominations | Australia Immigration News

Get the most recent information on nominations for Northern Territory visas in 2024–2025. Find out about skilled migration application procedures, visa categories, and nomination streams.

Applications for onshore nominations are still being processed by MigrationNT. On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, offshore applications will once again be accepted, but solely for the NT Family Stream and Job Offer Stream.

Owing to an overwhelming number of applications, the Priority Occupations Stream will be temporarily discontinued. While substantial delays are anticipated, existing offshore applications under the Priority Occupations Stream will still be evaluated.

Before submitting an application for nomination, candidates are urged to check the qualifying requirements and send an expression of interest using the SkillSelect system. It is crucial to remember that nominations might not be accepted prior to the expiration of visas.

Those whose onshore visas are about to expire should consult an expert about their alternatives and make sure they are in conformity with Australian laws.

What is a nomination from the Northern Territory Government?

A person may be nominated by the Northern Territory Government for a skilled visa if they:

1. fulfill the minimum standards set by the Australian government.
2. Meet the requirements for nomination eligibility set out by the NT Government.
3. after obtaining a visa, pledge to reside and work in the Territory in their specialized field for a minimum of three years.

Crucial Aspects to Remember:

    1. Whether or not a nomination is made will be decided by the NT Government.
    2. The nominee must consent to reside, work, and settle in the Northern Territory for a minimum of three years following the issuance of the visa.
    3. When selecting nominees, the NT Government will consider the demands of the NT industries as well as employment opportunities.
    4. Employment is not assured by a nomination.
    5. Jobs are not available for occupations listed on the NT Migration Occupation List.
    6. After arriving, people are in charge of finding their own housing and jobs. The NT government can offer limited help and information.

In order to submit an application for a nomination, people must be aware of:

1. The NT Government does not apply outside of the NT and only supports nominations made within the NT.
2. It is not the NT Government’s responsibility to arrange for housing, work, or financial support.
3. The Northern Territory Government does not give release letters for transfer to other states or territories and is not responsible for any errors or omissions in the material supplied.

Authority for Granting Visas:

Visas are issued by the Department of Home Affairs, not the NT Government.
