Alberta Introduces New EOI System for Faster Immigration

A new EOI mechanism for AAIP worker streams is introduced by Alberta. Find out how to obtain rank points, submit your Worker EOI, and improve your chances of being nominated to the province.

In order to better serve applicants in specific streams of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), Alberta is modernizing the way it issues Expressions of Interest (EOIs).

As of September 30, applicants must submit a Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) in order to be considered for any of the AAIP worker streams.

Candidates must visit the AAIP portal to apply, then fill out an online form with their personal information. A pool will be created for those who submit a worker EOI and will be given consideration. Applying is free of charge.

The Worker EOI points system, which resembles the federal Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), is used to rate candidates.

Points are granted according to a number of criteria, including age, familial ties to the province, language proficiency, work experience (which carries extra points for completion in Alberta), and education.

Email invites will be extended to candidates who score higher, increasing their chances of securing a provincial nomination.

Alberta emphasises that applicants who already have an ongoing AAIP application, an Entrepreneur EOI, or a Worker EOI cannot create a Worker EOI. You cannot file a new Worker EOI until you have withdrawn any previous applications or EOIs.

The province adds that since worker stream draws won’t start until mid-to late-October, applicants don’t need to rush their submissions.

Worker Streams in Alberta

Alberta changed the way it handles applications for its Worker streams earlier this year in order to better handle high demand and conform to labour market demands.

The government imposed a monthly cap on the amount of applications that might be allowed into the pool in June. No more applications will be accepted after the monthly cap is reached.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has allotted 9,750 PNP nominations to Alberta for 2024; this method was created to better manage processing timelines and these nominations. Among the impacted streams are:

Opportunity Stream for Alberta

1. Stream of Rural Renewal

2. Accelerated Tech Pathway

3. Stream: Travel and Hospitality

Giving applicants many opportunities to apply throughout the year is the aim of this method.

Due to exceptionally strong demand for the Alberta Opportunity Stream in 2024, the province decided to temporarily suspend applications from February to June.

The hiatus gave Alberta the opportunity to organize its backlog of applications and concentrate immigration nominations on high-demand industries such as technology, healthcare, construction, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality.
