By 2030, Australia is expected to need 1.3 million highly qualified technology workers. The Australian Computer Society (ACS) has greatly broadened its scope for evaluating ICT-related occupations in accordance with the Core Skills Occupations List (CSOL) and the Department of Home Affairs’ Skills in Demand visa.
Key Highlights of the Expansion
Expanded Occupation Scope: There are now 35 occupations in the ACS assessment portfolio, up from 25 previously. With the addition of ten new roles, this represents the largest expansion in more than ten years:

Implementation Timeline and Changes
System Updates: In order to accommodate the new ANZSCO codes, ACS is getting its platforms and evaluation procedures ready. Starting on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, these updates will be available online.
Assessment Pathways: Applicants and agents will continue to use the following established pathways:
1. Post-Australian Studies (PAS)
2. General Skills
3. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Additionally, in order to supplement credentials and work experience, ACS will now accept optional vendor certifications in specialised sectors like DevOps and cyber security.

Updates from the Information Hub: In January 2025, the ACS Migration Skills Assessment (MSA) Info Hub will launch comprehensive resources, including information on the new occupation codes.

Office Closure and Processing Timelines
Beginning Friday, December 20, 2024 (noon AEDT), the ACS offices will be closed for the holiday season. They will reopen on Monday, January 6, 2025. In the upcoming year, applicants may anticipate processing delays of up to four weeks.
