Skills in Demand (SID) Visa: A New Pathway

This visa offers a clear path to permanent residence and permits holders to remain in Australia for a maximum of four years.

Benefits for SID Visa Holders:

All employment with an authorized employer is eligible for permanent residence under the Permanent Residence Pathway.

Decreased Work Experience Requirement: In contrast to the TSS requirement, applicants only need one year of experience in their chosen occupation or comparable field.

Like the TSS medium-term stream, there are English language requirements.

SID Visa Streams

The SID visa introduces three distinct streams to address diverse workforce needs:

1. Core Skills Stream

– For professions listed as being in limited supply on the CSOL.

– Demands a salary of AUD73,150, or more, which is the Core Skills Income Threshold.

– Includes positions that are funded by global trade agreements.

2. Specialist Skills Stream

Aims to increase productivity by focusing on highly qualified workers in in-demand positions.

All ANZSCO 2022 jobs are eligible, with the exception of Major Group levels 3, 7, and 8 (such as laborer’s, drivers, machinery operators, and tradespeople).

Ensures parity with Australian workers in comparable professions by requiring incomes of at least AUD135,000.

3. Labor Agreement Stream

The Essential Skills stream, which is currently being developed, will replace this one.

Transition Arrangements for TSS Visa Holders

All pending applications filed prior to December 6, 2024, when TSS visa applications close, will be handled in accordance with the current regulations.

Pathways for Current TSS Visa Holders:

As long as they fulfil all requirements under the revised system, current TSS visa holders are still eligible for permanent residence.
