Australia’s More Opportunities for International Student Graduates

Victoria offers more than 500 visa spots and new opportunities in regional areas as part of the expansion of the Skilled Work Regional Visa (subclass 491) paths for foreign graduates.

The Victorian Government is improving access to the Skilled Work Regional Visa (subclass 491), hence increasing chances for graduates of overseas schools. This program supports the state’s objectives to draw in highly qualified workers, encourage regional development, and foster the expansion of local communities.

Key Features of This Initiative Include:

1. Increased Nomination Places for Graduates: The Victorian Government will set aside a minimum of 500 nomination slots for the Skilled Work Regional Visa (subclass 491) in the 2024–2025 program year. This constitutes a minimum of 25% of Victoria’s subclass 491 visa spots, which are reserved especially for international graduates of Victorian educational institutions. This guarantees that a significant proportion of proficient graduates can obtain a route to permanent residence via regional migration.

2. Expanded Eligibility for Melbourne-based Graduates: Currently residing and employed in Melbourne’s metropolitan area, graduates may now submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) for the subclass 491 visa nomination. This creates new options for individuals to move to regional Victoria, where they can pursue professional progression in fields that are in demand throughout regional areas, while also contributing to the local economy.

3. Strengthening Regional Communities: The goal of these new career paths is to entice talented graduates to relocate to regional Victoria, where they can fill skills gaps in critical fields like education, healthcare, engineering, and IT. The Victorian Government hopes to promote sustainable growth, diversify the local workforce, and strengthen local economies by providing more easily accessible migration possibilities.

4. Career Growth and Regional Integration: In addition to better visa prospects, international graduates who choose to move to rural Victoria will have the opportunity to integrate into thriving, supportive communities. Numerous regional locations provide graduates with strong networks, career development incentives, and reduced living expenses, enabling them to succeed in their personal and professional lives.

5. Commitment to Long-Term Regional Development: Through this program, the Victorian Government’s dedication to regional development is further reinforced. It is consistent with larger plans to decentralize population growth, provide employment, and guarantee the prosperity of regional towns and cities. The cultural diversity and significant talents that international graduates contribute are essential to the resilience and further growth of local communities.

Victoria is establishing itself as a top destination for skilled migrants and international students with these new routes. More than ever, graduates can pursue fulfilling occupations, support the growth of their local communities, and eventually obtain permanent residency in Australia.
